The world of comedy is mourning the loss of Lynne Marie Stewart, who charmed audiences for years with her unforgettable performances. Best remembered as the glamorous Miss Yvonne on Pee-wee’s Playhouse and as Bonnie Kelly, Charlie’s quirky mother on It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, Stewart died unexpectedly at age 78 due to complications from a tumor. The tumor, located near her liver and gallbladder, was discovered late in December 2024, bringing a sudden halt to her vibrant career.

Stewart's career trajectory shifted dramatically in 1981 when she debuted as Miss Yvonne in The Pee-wee Herman Show stage production. Her portrayal of the flirtatious 'Most Beautiful Woman in Puppetland' became a signature role, which launched her into broader fame with the beloved children's program Pee-wee’s Playhouse from 1986 to 1991. Her onscreen chemistry with Paul Reubens, who brought Pee-wee Herman to life, was magical—a partnership praised for its comedic brilliance throughout various films and specials featuring the duo.

Besides her work associated with Pee-wee, Stewart's acting resume boasts an array of beloved characters. This talented actress made notable appearances in movies like American Graffiti and Bridesmaids, as well as TV shows such as M*A*S*H* and Arrested Development. Her contributions to comedy were heavily influenced by her collaboration with The Groundlings, a comedy troupe renowned for shaping the careers of many entertainment superstars.

Tributes poured in from co-stars, friends, and fans who were touched by both her exceptional talent and her spirit. Charlie Day, known for his role in It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, shared his admiration, calling her a “brilliant and talented” performer, while the legendary Danny DeVito fondly remembered her as having a “wonderful spirit.” Adding to the warmth of remembrance, Cassandra Peterson, famously known as Elvira, praised Stewart as one of the “kindest, sweetest, funniest women” she had ever met.

Lynne Marie Stewart leaves behind a legion of fans along with her sister, Gayle Stewart, and several grandchildren. Her vibrant career and the joyful energy she brought to audiences everywhere remain a vivid reminder of what she contributed to comedy and entertainment.
